I encourage my students to be specific, as Natalie Goldberg writes, to name things and use sensory description in their writing. I hope to get better and better at doing the same in my own writing.
What We Owe was published in Gone Dogs, edited by Jim Mitchem and Laurie Smithwick. Several of my other pieces were published when I regularly contributed to Maximum Middle Age, an online zine that is sadly defunct. Watch for upcoming essays on this blog and Medium.
